Honda, Toyota and Nissan recall 600,000 UK vehicles up to 12 years old as part of a global recall of 34million vehicles due to the defective airbags, which use the volatile substance ammonium nitrate - used to make bombs. Automotive experts discovered that the moisture in the airbags, made by Japanese company Takata Corp, can cause the substance to ignite too quickly which can send 'metal shards into the passenger cabin that can lead to serious injury or death’. The vehicles recalled in the UK are some of the best-selling cars in the country, including the Toyota Yaris, Corolla and Hilux models and Nissan Almera and X-trail vehicles.
