Peabody driver cited following head-on collision in Saugus - Wicked Local Saugus

A head-on collision at the corner of Walnut and Oakcrest streets in Saugus on Sunday afternoon sent three people to the hospital and landed one in hot water. Thomas Gillespie, 31 of Peabody, was cited for operating with a suspended license, a marked lanes violation and operating to endanger just after 2:51 p. m. on July 26 when his 2004 brown Jeep Cherokee smashed into a 1988 Chevy S10 pickup driving... There were three passengers in Gillespie’s vehicle and two total in the pickup. Giorgetti said both vehicles endured heavy front-end damage and the Chevrolet also suffered damage to the driver’s side. After hearing about the accident over his police scanner, Saugus resident Charlie Zapolski made his way to the scene to take pictures. Zapolski watched emergency responders take passengers to the hospital while he snapped photographs. “They said the guy in the Cherokee crossed over the center divider and hit the Chevrolet and he basically caused the accident,” Zapolski said. “If you look close at the pictures, you can see there’s a trail of liquid going from the side of the road where he shouldn’t have been going back to the Cherokee — it shows he was like 10 feet over at that point. From what Zapolski saw and heard, he said the accident could have been “much worse. Source: saugus.wickedlocal.com
