Australian ute sales surge in May - Drive

Figures due to be released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries on Wednesday will show the Toyota HiLux topped the charts as Australia's best selling vehicle in May, with 3173 transactions. It was one of three utility products inside the top 10, alongside the fourth-placed Mitsubishi Triton (2683) and fifth-placed Ford Ranger (2411). In addition, Holden's Colorado ute finished 11th overall for the month of May with 1580 transactions. The demand for utilities is only set to increase over the course of 2015 thanks to newly introduced models like the Nissan Navara , and upcoming replacements for the Toyota HiLux , Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50 – models which are set to be more... Light commercial sales are up 3. 6 per cent so far this year, figures show, thanks to an 11. 2 per cent increase in private sales. According to Toyota Australia executive director Tony Cramb, car makers are increasingly working to lure ute buyers with dual cab products featuring more car-like dynamics and better efficiency. What the customer base is looking for is a more family oriented vehicle as well as a working utility vehicle.
