Suzuki Celerio: Size isn't everything - Drivesouth
Suzuki's new city car, the Celerio, has landed. David Thomson finds out what it has to offer at the price-conscious, cheap and cheerful end of the new-car market. How's this for a coincidence: in the very week that the Suzuki Celerio was supplied to Drivesouth for appraisal in Dunedin, it was declared the most affordable new car to own and run in Australia by that country's equivalents of our Automobile... The research that led to that conclusion was comprehensive, covering not only purchase price and five years and 75,000km of running costs (fuel, tyres, servicing and insurance), but also probable depreciation. Whether the findings hold equally true in our quite different market is a matter for debate, but even here the fundamental finding will not change. the smallest member of the Suzuki range is a very cheap car to buy and run. One starts with a purchase price of $15,990 for the five-speed manual (a CVT auto is offered for $1410 more), which includes a five-year warranty and roadside assistance package. The second is the publicity brochure for the car, featuring a couple who appear to be at least 40 years younger than the true target market for this vehicle. Source: www.drivesouth.co.nz
