Certain automakers think truck shoppers want small -- witness the Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon and 2016 Toyota Tacoma -- but Nissan believes some shoppers actually want more. The 2016 Nissan Titan XD, introduced publicly at the 2015 Detroit auto show, is a little larger, more powerful, and more capable than most of its light-duty pickup truck rivals. The last two letters of 2016 Nissan Titan XD signify that this is the long-wheelbase model, and it'll be the first variant to launch, by the end of 2016. The XD model, however, is for the customer vacillating between buying a 1500 and a 2500 truck, explains Nissan marketing manager Phil O'Connor: “They want a diesel, but they may not want the capability of a heavy-duty truck. ” Nissan estimates that about 75,000 truck shoppers each year switch from a light-duty to a heavy-duty, and another 75,000 make the opposite switch.
