Titans showcase ground game vs. Rams - Columbia Daily Herald
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans’ home preseason opener on Sunday night was a success story as the boys in blue won 27-15. The focus was obviously centered around rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota who looked impressive with his new team. The Titan starting defense also shined with a first half blanking of the Rams and a pick six added to the mix. Titans starting running back, Bishop Sankey showed signs of a breakout sophomore season with a pair of strong runs. Sankey carried the ball six times for 45 yards against St. Louis while rookie running back David Cobb finished with 26 yards on eight carries. Sankey was the leader of the pack, bashing his way through the Rams defense for chunks of yardage that helped the Titans’ offense flow efficiently. “For any offense, if you are able to run the ball well it is going to help your pass game, and it helped us out tonight. Sankey started the game well as he blasted the Rams for an 18-yard run on just the Titans’ second play of the opening drive. Sankey’s highlight run of the night came on Tennessee’s second drive when he broke loose for a 19-yard pickup. The young running back was quick to credit the work of his offensive line that led to the preseason success. Source: columbiadailyherald.com
