Following meetings of the city’s public safety, public works, finance and general committees, aldermen added $2. 1 million back into the budget, making a tax increase necessary. a new administrative clerk for the public works department. 10 police cars and the equipment needed for the cars. and a 1 percent cost of living increase for city employees as well as a 2. 5 percent step increase. Leaders approved the budget on first reading June 9. On Thursday, they amended it by adding $14,000 to a line item for professional services in order to hire a new company to perform the city’s annual audit. Source: www.tennessean.com
