Judge reduces bond for former Shallowater coach accused in aggravated assault case - LubbockOnline.com

A Lubbock County judge reduced Wednesday by 80 percent a former Shallowater softball coach’s bond at the end of a hearing in the 364th District Court. Judge William Eichman reduced Jeffrey Richardson’s bond from $250,000 to $50,000. The reduction would allow Richardson to pay 10 percent of the total to obtain a surety bond from a bonding company and be released from jail while he awaits trial. Richardson, who faces a charge of having an improper relationship with a student in 2014, is accused of using his Nissan Titan pickup truck last week to threaten the student. Richardson’s accuser testified Wednesday she believed the defendant saw her driving in a Ford Mustang on Clovis Highway and attempted to block her path with his truck. Prosecutors played footage taken from a convenience store camera that faced the road showing a Mustang on Clovis Highway speeding through the Frankford Avenue intersection, followed by a black Nissan Titan, which stopped at a red light. “Jeff Richardson never realized she was on the road,” he said. Hurley who characterized the $250,000 bond as oppressive, said Richardson could lose his job at an auto parts store in Lubbock if he is not released. Richardson’s wife, Sandra, testified she did not have any assets to sell to secure the $250,000 bond. Source: lubbockonline.com
