Ostler: Jordan Spieth working to fill some big golf shoes - SFGate
As the British Open got set for a roaring finish Monday morning, the big question in golf was, “Does Jordan Spieth have what it takes to fill the Tiger Void. An ever bigger question is, “What will it take to fill that void. If it’s only about winning, Spieth is on his way. And he won his final two events in 2014. That type of roll, plus a hard run at this British Open, is Tigerish. Spieth is new on the block, but he’s just too good and too cool to be a flash or a fluke. As he said in his TV interview after Sunday’s third round, he is feeling more and more relaxed with every major he wins. But even if Spieth keeps steamrolling through golf, will he ever be as big as Tiger. Winning takes care of a lot. If you are truly great at a sport, we — the media and fans — will create you, imbue you with all types of fun qualities, build a legend around you using spare parts. Take Woods. He’s the only big-time golfer I knew who didn’t hang around after his formal tent interviews to shoot the bull with the media. Oddly, all that weird stuff might have helped create Tiger’s mystique.
