Jeep Wrangler ute in the works - Cars Guide

Jeep wants a ute as part of the next-generation Wrangler line-up — and Australia is the driving force behind its development. The off-road specialist has been toying with the idea of a pick-up based on the Wrangler for more than 10 years, having unveiled the Gladiator concept in Detroit in 2005. But the British boss of the US brand, Mike Manley, says a ute is back on... "We are well into the program for Wrangler renewal (and) I am a big advocate for a Wrangler pick-up," Mr Manley told Australian media at the recent Detroit motor show. If I did a Wrangler pick-up I believe every international market would take it. ". Between 2012 and 2014, Jeep offered Mopar kits which can convert a four-door Wrangler into a ute. Meanwhile Australia is also behind the push for a right-hand-drive version of Jeep's upcoming Range Rover rival. The Jeep Wagoneer is due to arrive in 2018 and will sit above the Grand Cherokee , and likely be priced around $100,000. But as of today, says Mr Manley, "it's not right-hand drive". Jeep sales in Australia have grown sevenfold over the past five years and this has revived the possibility of more right-hand drive models. Source: www.carsguide.com.au
