'A Catch with Dad' by Don Carnahan - nwitimes.com

Here is the speech that Don Carnahan gave last year when his father, Carl Carnahan, was inducted into the Crown Point High School Teacher Hall of Fame. "Carl Carnahan began teaching at Crown Point High School in 1942. Prior to his career at Crown Point he taught and coached at Dyer High School for five years. Dad was inducted into the U. S. Army after his first year at Crown Point. In 1948 he became Crown Point's first athletic director. To some Crown Point alums the term 'Old School' might apply to the former West Joliet Street high school's facility, or maybe the school's Community Building gymnasium near C. P. 's "downtown square" on North Court Street. However, Dad defined 'Old School' in the most positive way with respect to his coaching and teaching. 'Old School' also applied to Dad's practical 'do it yourself' mentality. I remember back in the 1950s C. P. H. S relocating its football and baseball fields from two separately owned public park properties to the W. Joliet Street high school complex. Source: www.nwitimes.com
