My brother, a baseball enthusiast, was quick to fill me in. Since then, mentions of Randy Johnson have evoked in me the same hometown pride many other Livermorians feel for one of our town's most famed residents. Steve Fallon got to know Johnson when they played Livermore Little League, Babe Ruth Baseball and high school ball together. Then Johnson, the 6-foot-10 2015 Hall of Fame inductee and one of Fallon's closest friends, went pro. "People would give him a hard time about being tall," Fallon remembered of the friend he used to pick up for school in his Willy's jeep. Fallon said Johnson would stop by to have dinner at Fallon's house when he was in town. After he left for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Johnson and Fallon lost touch for a while, but during his final year as a professional baseball player, which he played as a San Francisco Giant, they reconnected. "He'd come over to our house a couple of times during that time he was playing for the Giants," Fallon recalled. It was during one of these trips that Fallon's mother, Betty, told Johnson that when he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, she wanted to be there to see it.
