Honda adds 105000 vehicles to Takata air bag recall - USA TODAY

Honda said Thursday it is expanding by 104,871 vehicles a December U. S. recall to fix potentially deadly Takata airbags. At least five deaths have been linked to malfunctioning Takata bags in Honda products. Honda said that it is the first recall of 2008 Pilots for potential problems with driver's air bags made by Takata. The expansion of a 2014 recall for the Takata bags brings to 5. 5 million the number of Honda and Acura models recalled for the issue. Honda is Takata's biggest U. S. customer, so is bearing the brunt of the apparent flaw in the bags. Honda said it expanded the recall after checking Takata part numbers against Honda vehicle identification numbers in its factory records. • 2001-2007 Honda Accord with 4-cylinder engines. • 2001-2002 Honda Accord with V-6 engines. • 2001-2005 Honda Civic. • 2006 Honda Ridgeline. • 2002-2003 Acura TL. • 2003 Acura CL. The Takata air bags have malfunctioned in some Honda models, exploding with too much force, which can rip loose metal parts and spew them, shrapnel-like, into vehicle occupants. Honda's latest move involves driver's-side bags. Source: www.usatoday.com
