St. Francis baseball states its case against national power - SFGate
Francis baseball team didn’t need air transportation to return home from Cal State Fullerton on Saturday. The Lancers rode high — even on a charter bus — following a 3-2 win over JSerra Catholic-San Juan Capistrano (Orange County) in the final of the Boras Baseball Classic, a 32-team midseason tournament that was created to replicate the state... Ydens, a junior who has already committed to UCLA, pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to finish a 90-pitch five-hitter with five strikeouts against the then-14th-ranked team in the country, according to MaxPreps. Francis won five straight in the tournament, four against top Northern California teams. “It all made for a very good ride home,” St. Francis coach Mike Oakland said of the 6½-hour ride. Saturday’s title game was televised online on ESPN3, and the team watched a recording on the way back. Just like the ninth-year coach can’t believe the Lancers are 21-5 and have clinched the West Catholic Athletic League title after Tuesday’s 16-0 home win over seventh-place Riordan. Francis lost 16 seniors off last season’s 26-5 team and returned very little pitching or hitting. Source: www.sfgate.com
