2015 GMC Canyon SLT: Livin' large — just not as large as Sierra - STLtoday.com

GMC makes a nice living offering trucks that, at their core, are Chevrolets with tonier appointments. The all-new 2015 GMC Canyon, in its highest SLT trim, excels at this task. Our top-of-the-line 4WD SLT Crew Cab Short Box rang the register at a daunting $41,785, including $3,910 worth of add-ons. Officially a "midsize" truck, this 2015 Canyon, to be sure, is about 5 inches narrower and a foot-and-a-half shorter than the full-size Sierra. On the other hand, compared to the old Canyon, which went the way of the eight-track player after 2012, this 2015 edition is roughly half a foot longer and half a foot wider. But Canyon's SLT trim does an impressive job covering surfaces with richly stitched leather, wood appliques and satin-metal appearances. For those who don't require such sybaritic treatment, lesser Canyons can be had for as little as 22 grand or, in Colorado garb, this truck can be had in more blue-collar livery as a Shiv-ah-lay. On the road, Canyon proved smoother on its leaf-spring rear suspension than a small truck has a right to be while providing a quiet cabin at-speed. Available in extended- and crew-cab configurations with a short box (crew cab only) or long box (either cab), Canyon comes in SL, Canyon, SLE and SLT models. Crew cab room is excellent up front.
