Although the error on the catch scored the winning run, Inland Lakes coach Krissi Thompson said that it wasn’t what cost the Bulldogs the game in the end. Inland Lakes did have a rough outing at the plate, as Shook was electric on the mound for Hillman. The sophomore struck out 15 batters and walked four in the win, scattering a single apiece from Bulldogs Makayla Henkel, Vanessa Wandrie and Madison Milner across nine innings. The sophomore followed up a 12 strikeout performance in the regional final win over defending D4 state champion Rogers City on Saturday with a 17 strikeout no-hitter in nine innings against the Tigers on Tuesday. Mallory did play with fire at times, walking seven batters and hitting four, but she was at her best with runners in scoring position, four times getting the deciding out with a go-ahead run waiting on third base, and twice by strikeout.
