Hummel's game blog: Cards' scoreless streak rises to 22 innings - STLtoday.com (blog)

KANSAS CITY • After a string of four games in which a Cardinals starter couldn't complete the sixth inning, righthander Lance Lynn extended that string in the other direction Friday night, becoming the fourth straight starter to go at least six... Lynn (3-4), who made it through six innings exactly, was strafed for two 400-foot-plus home runs by Royals designated hitter Kendrys Morales, good for five runs. And the Cardinals' offense continued a scoreless streak that reached 22 innings as it failed to break through against KC starter Chris Young and a phalanx of relievers from baseball's best bullpen. It was one thing to be shut out recently by Cleveland's Corey Kluber, who fanned 18 in eight innings while giving up one hit or the New York Mets' Jacob deGrom, who retired the last 23 men he faced and also allowed only one hit in eight innings. The Cardinals, the National League's best at 27-15, had eight hits, five walks and a hit batsman in this one, albeit seven of the hits were singles. The Cardinals entered Friday night's interleague clash with the Kansas City Royals riding a string of 13 scoreless innings. Despite allowing six hits and two walks over six innings, 6-foot-10 Kansas City righthander Chris Young added to that figure with six more scoreless frames. Source: www.stltoday.com
