com and Baum & Associates, a Michigan-based market research firm focusing on automotive issues including the hybrid and electric vehicle market. Overall sales for March were strong and the industry showed continuing improvement from one year-ago, in part due to better weather this year in many – if not all – parts of the country. Battery electric vehicles had a good month while the other alternative categories did not perform as well. Sales for full electric vehicles were up strongly from a year-ago as noted due to a number of new entrants, and this is for one month-ago and year-to-date. The Leaf recovered from two very weak months, although still below year-ago. The share of the market attributable to electric vehicles is 0. 4 percent which has been consistent this year. Plug in hybrids continue to experience low volumes with the category leaders selling at modest levels. The three category leaders are the Ford Fusion Energi, Ford C-Max Energi, and the Chevrolet Volt. While the C-Max Energi had a relatively good month, it remains flat vs. last year, unlike the Fusion Energi, Volt, and Prius Plug-in which are all down from last year through three months.
