UAW “Reality Check” letter slams Gov. Pence - WANE

(WANE) The UAW council member who wrote the letter titled, “Reality Check on GM in Fort Wayne,” in reference to General Motors’ $1. 2 billion investment is speaking about who deserves the credit and it’s not Governor Mike Pence. Indiana Governor Mike Pence was among the dignitaries who attended Tuesday’s announcement regarding the decision by General Motors to invest $1. 2 billion in the Fort Wayne truck plant. UAW Local 2209 represents nearly 4,000 workers at the plant which makes Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. In the letter obtained by NewsChannel 15, dated May 27, and titled “Reality Check on GM in Fort Wayne. Schmidt, who in the letter states he was one of the original 30 hourly workers hired to staff the plant’s robotic paint shop when it opened in 1986, also listed in the letter the criteria he believes GM uses to decide which plants to invest in.... However Pence has asserted that a meeting he had with GM CEO Mary Barra in Detroit during the North American International Auto Show was conducted to help win the company’s investment for the Fort Wayne plant. NewsChannel 15 contacted Governor Pence’s office for reaction to Schmidt’s letter and was issued the following statement by Kara Brooks of media relations, where the meeting with CEO Barra was once again.
