The team announced Wednesday that it has extended the contract of center Jori Lehtera, who had one season left on his current deal, and also has agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent defenseman Chris Butler. Lehtera and the Blues have agreed to a three-year, $14. 1 million contract ($4. 7 million annual average value), keeping him in the fold through the 2018-19 season. Butler's deal is a one-year, one-way contract worth $675,000. Lehtera would have become an unrestricted free agent next summer. Wednesday is the first day that players entering the final year of their contracts are permitted to sign extensions. In 2015-16, Lehtera will be playing out the final season of the two-year, $5. 5 million deal ($2. 75 million AAV) that he signed last July 1. His actual salary for next season is $2. 25 million.
