FLINT, MI – The lines to get a glimpse inside were long but quick as thousands of people visited General Motors' Flint Assembly plant to watch Local 598 members put together trucks that go throughout the world. The event was held in conjunction with Flint's annual Back to the Bricks and as a part of GM's "500 Million Thanks," an event to celebrate 500 million vehicles rolling off GM's assembly lines since the company's founding in 1908. All day on... Since opening in 1947, Flint Assembly specifically has produced more than 13 million vehicles and currently builds the Chevrolet Silverado LD and HD and the GMC Sierra HD. Don Pallas, a worker at the plant, spent his lunch break walking around and... While there were events and vendors outside of Flint Assembly, one of the draws was a tour of the assembly line in the plant. Richard worked at Flint's V8 Engine facility but retiring in 1980 and he never had been in Flint Assembly before Tuesday afternoon. Richard spent 31 years as a GM employee and said he was thrilled about hearing word last week regarding GM's $877 million investment in Flint which will include building a body shop just off the current Flint Assembly plant.
