Honda Announces Return to Baja 1000 - Truck Trend Network

It’s very possible that the prototype racer will wear bodywork that resembles the upcoming 2017 Honda Ridgeline pickup, which has yet to be revealed. In 2012, Honda fielded the HPD Desert Pilot , a 400hp tube-frame, mid-engined off-roader that also competed in the 2011 Pikes Peak Hillclimb. The HPD Desert Pilot took first in its class in the 2012 Baja 500, while its immediate predecessor, the CR-R Ridgeline, enjoyed two Baja 1000 wins. The V-6 used in the new Baja racer also shows up under the hoods of Honda-backed Le Mans Series, World Endurance Championship, and American Le Mans Series sports cars, so it has motorsports roots. It’s loosely based on the Honda J-Series 3. 5L V-6, which finds its way into many Honda vehicles, including the new Pilot , Accord Sedan, and Acura MDX luxury crossover. Source: www.trucktrend.com
