Oakland: Fatal crash reported on Interstate 880 - San Jose Mercury News
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 4:50 a. m. when a 2001 Hyundai Sonata stalled in the freeway's southbound middle lane, Officer Sean Wilkenfeld said. Sithideth, the driver of a 2000 Honda Civic, slammed on her brakes and spun into the adjacent lane, where she was hit by a 2010 Subaru Forester sport-utility vehicle, Wilkenfeld said. That forced the Honda into the path of a 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck that hit the Honda, killing Sithideth, he said. The Subaru's driver -- a 52-year-old San Francisco man -- suffered minor injuries and was taken to Kaiser Hospital in San Leandro, Wilkenfeld said. The other two motorists -- a 42-year-old Vacaville man and a 47-year-old Oakland man -- were not injured. The Hyundai and the Subaru were engulfed by flames as officers arrived at the scene, authorities said.
