Mitchell couple donating wedding gifts to fund cancer research, promote screening - Daily Republic
In lieu of gifts, guests who attend the couple's wedding will be encouraged to donate to cancer research and prevention in honor of Fosdick's late wife and Messer's late father. The Mitchell couple have been around long enough — Fosdick is 61 and Messer is 62 — to acquire the materials that typically come as wedding gifts, so rather than declining gifts they chose an avenue to benefit others. Donations made to the Avera Queen of Peace Foundation Cancer Care Fund in honor of LeAnne's father, Gilbert Moller, who died in 2004 at 76, supports patients and those in the community by funding free and reduced cost cancer screenings. The American Cancer Society states pancreatic cancer is difficult to diagnose before it reaches its later stages, but Messer said it is important for any type of cancer to be screened and found early on to ensure a better prognosis.
