“We are just guys that love old cars,” said Acworth resident Darwin Stanfield, who has been a member for five years and is the president of the club. He owns a 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente, a 1966 Ford F100 pickup and a 1940 Ford pickup. We love to show off our old cars,” Stanfield said. Creepers Car Club has two charter members, Bob Baker and Ray Carson, who remain active with the club. Some have been rebuilt, have new paint, and some of the luxuries of newer cars but the looks of the older cars,” he said. The club originated in Smyrna but now meets the second Tuesday of each month at Cheatham Hill Community Center (on the East/West Connector) at 7:30 p. m. “It takes one year before a prospective member is voted on. They have to attend at least 50... After a year’s probation the prospect is voted on,” said Stanfield, whose family moved to Marietta when he was 1 year old. He graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1965. The club participates in various activities such as car cruises and car shows locally and all over the Southeast. “We go to a lot of those shows and hosts our own car show as well,” he said. “We are a nonprofit organization, and when we put on a car show the proceeds go to local charities,” Stanfield said.
