BOSTON — Boston Red Sox lefthander Wade Miley, who will pitch here at Fenway Park against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, looked like the team's ace at times during May after posting a 8. 62 ERA during April. He recorded a 3. 49 ERA in six May starts despite a disappointing final start to the month in which he allowed five earned runs in 4. 0 innings against Texas in an outing in which his defense let him down. Subtract that final start and his May ERA calculates to 2. 60. He also pitched 6. 0 or more innings in five of those six May starts. HE OWNS 100 COWS AND PARTICIPATED IN A COW-MILKING CONTEST IN TEXAS. Miley grew up in Louisiana riding horses and milking cows.
