Updated, 12:33 p. m. 4/28. A Ludlow man is in an Urbana hospital being treated for burns from a fire police believe he set early Sunday in Ludlow. Allen Jones, chief deputy of the Champaign County sheriff's office, said Tuesday that deputies Jonathan Rieches and Jason Moore stopped Wayne D. Largent, 28, in that village a few minutes after the police chief there reported a fire in the town's... About 2:30 a. m. Sunday, Ludlow Police Chief Joe Navarro saw someone appear to break in the Ludlow Community Building, which also houses the police department. The police chief said he had been staking out the community center since 11 p. m. Saturday because he believed Largent would attempt to break in to retrieve evidence that Largent thought was stored in the police department evidence locker. Navarro said in 2013, he found evidence Largent had broken into the community center in July that year and stolen evidence from a previous case. While he watched early Sunday, Navarro saw someone approach the rear of the community center. Navarro said he approached the building intending to arrest the man but stopped when he saw a flash, apparently from the man starting a fire. He called for backup from area police and said the suspect should be driving a red Ford F150 pickup truck. Source: www.news-gazette.com
