Branstad, Reynolds take biodiesel trucks for drive - Iowa Farmer Today

Terry Branstad had an entirely predictable but natural response after driving a biodiesel-powered pickup truck around the block during a promotional event at the state capitol last week. Of course, biodiesel proponents were in Des Moines to do more than let the governor drive. They were there to thank lawmakers for passing incentives to use biodiesel in Iowa and to remind them of the importance of the product. Grant Kimberley, Iowa Biodiesel Board executive director, says most of the uncertainty and need for action right now is at the federal level. It also includes the need to re-instate the biodiesel tax credit. But, he says the April 8 event also allowed the IBB to point out there are now 47 different models of cars and small trucks on the road in the United States that can use B20 or higher blends of biodiesel. Kimberley says legislators have been supportive of biodiesel in Iowa. The legislation passed earlier this year that raised the fuel tax in the state also included language that will put in place a 3-cent incentive for B11 or higher blends of biodiesel sold for road use in the state. And there is a producer credit for biodiesel production. Source: www.iowafarmertoday.com
