Ducks Unlimited pledges $9M over 5 years for SD conservation - Daily Republic

Ducks Unlimited will donate at least $1. 8 million per year for each of the next five years, it announced during the state Ducks Unlimited convention Saturday in Mitchell. The goal is to protect the best of the best when it comes to waterfowl habitat in the Prairie Pothole region of South Dakota. “Conservation partners working together can meet several objectives as many of the state’s wildlife species benefit from habitat work. ” Ducks Unlimited said programs like its Revolving Habitat Program and the Wetland Reserve Easement Program are expected to benefit from the commitment. For example, the revolving program included Ducks Unlimited purchasing more than $9 million worth of lands in South Dakota in 2014. Those lands will have wetlands and grassland habitats restored and then will eventually be sold back to... Ducks Unlimited has more than 8,000 members in South Dakota and more than 150 were in town for their conference this weekend in Mitchell. The organization says it has invested nearly $70 million since 1986 in South Dakota to conserve and preserve wetland and grassland habitats.
