County lawmen assist in capture of car thief - Jackson County Newspapers
Once the pursuit entered into Kanawha County, the Kanawha County Deputies took the lead. At approximately 4:30 a. m. , Jackson County Deputies were notified that the vehicle had turned off of WV Rt 21 onto White Oak Drive and then onto Rust Drive. JCBI Detective Ross Mellinger commented that Chad Smith was potentially responsible for eight auto thefts in Jackson and Kanawha counties. Smith took Deputy Julia Williams, Detective Eric Cullen, Detective Ross Mellinger, Kanawha County Detective Hower, and Kanawha County Detective Pile to the location of the 1983 F350 dump truck on Lakeland Circle Road.
