Special meeting for Manville Fire Dept. truck purchase May 12 - Valley Breeze

LINCOLN - While the purchase of a ladder truck was indefinitely postponed months ago, wardens for the Manville Fire District are seeking voter approval Tuesday for a smaller utility truck to be used for non-fire related emergencies. Chairman Bob Lake said all residents are asked to attend the special meeting on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:45 p. m. at the Manville Fire Department, 112 Old Main St. Before the voters will be a 2015 Ford F550 diesel utility truck for $119,000, plus a... The idea to acquire a full-size crew cab utility vehicle was brought up back in February, after board members decided to postpone the purchase of a ladder truck. Right now, the station in Manville has one adequate truck, and another 19-year-old truck that needs significant work, Lake said. He said Chief Peter Adams' original plan was to have one engine, a ladder truck and a utility vehicle. "But we're going to hold that engine for now even though it needs substantial chassis work, so we would get this utility truck to use to get more men to the scene," he added. Lake said while the utility truck is smaller than an engine, it can still transport up to five men to emergencies. Source: www.valleybreeze.com
