Technician program expands job offerings for Union graduatess - Tulsa World
Union Career Connect was launched last year as a way for the district to meet the career-readiness component of its districtwide strategic plan. In addition to the manufacturing track, which includes the technician certification program and pairs students with industry partners, some students enrolled in an auto mechanic program and interned with the city of Tulsa. Today, more than ever, we see our goal as ensuring those students are successful beyond high school and doing everything we can within our power to create structures for them to be exposed to different sectors, for them to gain the skill set that... Cameron said other districts in the area are also beginning to expand manufacturing offerings in their high schools. Cameron is also the executive director of Dream It Do It Oklahoma, a coalition that aims to generate young adult interest in manufacturing careers. In addition to Union Public Schools, the coalition is partnering with Tulsa, Broken Arrow, Sand Springs and Pryor public schools. Manufacturing is a strong component of jobs in Oklahoma. And, when it comes to business in our State, small business IS big business as more jobs are located inside businesses with fewer than 50 employees.
