Report: Ford Ranger Owners Turning to Competition Over Ford - MotorTrend Magazine (blog)

I have always been a fan of Ford but that said I agree with most of the comments, it was a mistake by Ford to completely abandon the sub-full size pickup market in the US. Although I personally don't have any use for a compact pickup, clearly a... I've had three Rangers in the past twelve years, including my current '03 model. I usually don't buy brand new trucks. So, if I trade up next year, and every three years after that, I won't run out of Rangers until 2019. Maybe, by then, Ford will figure things out, and have a new from the ground up Ranger ready for the US Market. It should be a truly compact truck, two door and supercab only(no hideous four doors, please), designed specifically for the US Market. Somebody at Ford wasn't thinking. Some people simply don't want full-sized trucks. Ford obviously hasn't looked at the comments of Ranger owners, nor discussed this with Ranger groups members to see what interest still exist for such a small truck and the loyalty they had to the brand. Has Ford figured what the likelihood of those departing buyers switching away will mean to future car sales too. Source: wot.motortrend.com
