The long-time family grower-shipper operation headquarters spreads over nearly 1,200 acres, said company president and CEO Rod Braga during a tour in his pickup truck. Braga, 48, points out organic crops, such as spring mix lettuce, iceberg lettuce and kale. Braga represents the third generation of Bragas who have farmed the land. The ranch was founded by his Swiss grandfather, Sebastian Braga, who came to the Salinas Valley in 1928. Sebastian bought his own 600-acre ranch in Soledad in 1937. Today, Braga Fresh Family Farms is at the forefront of the fresh produce industry, in both organic and non-organic vegetables. Rod Braga grew up on the ranch and worked at nearly every task, from caring for beef cattle to growing and harvesting. These days, Braga spends much of his time meeting produce buyers around the U. S. , developing sales for the Ranch's line of organics, Josie's Organics, named after his grandmother.
