Fairbanks man killed in Saturday crash on Steese Highway - KTUU.com

A 73-year-old man died Saturday night in a Fairbanks collision on the Steese Highway, according to Fairbanks police. According to a post on the Fairbanks Police Department’s Facebook page, Fairbanks resident William P. Ambrose Sr. died shortly after the crash, reported at about 9:30 p. m. at the highway’s intersection with 3rd Avenue. “Ambrose was driving a 2008 Ford Focus and traveling westbound on 3rd Street in order to turn south on the Steese Highway,” police wrote. “A driver operating a Ford F-250 travelling north on the Steese Highway failed to stop at the red light, according to witnesses, and struck Ambrose’s car on the driver’s side of the vehicle. “They weren’t DUI, they weren’t texting,” Courtney said. Courtney said the Steese was closed for at least three hours as investigators conducted a "total stations" recording of evidence at the scene, including the use of a Fairbanks Fire Department ladder truck to take overhead photos of the crash site.
