The keel of the US Navy's (USN's) second Gerald R Ford-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier (CVN) was laid on 22 August. John F Kennedy (CVN 79) is being built by Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding division in Newport News, Virginia.
