Though Atkinson admits she didn’t have much free time in her schedule then, it was something she wanted to do. “Previously, I had been in some shops in Florida and was very interested in doing custom embroidery and that type of thing,” she said. “When it became available, I kind of jumped at it. ”. Employee Jan Rhoades has been a part of Design-N-Stitch for the past 10 years, doing a majority of the business’ embroidery projects. “If I have to go to work every day, this is a lot of fun, and I do have to go to work every day, so it works well,” Rhoades said with a laugh. Design-N-Stitch offers a full spectrum of custom embroidery, from monograms to designs and logos. Design-N-Stitch’s projects are completed on the business’ two machines, including a Meistergram for monograms or simple pictures and a Tajima for more solid fill or more detail. Being a small business allows Design-N-Stitch to be flexible in the type and number of projects they can take on. “We will do one item, where some of the other area businesses will only do a dozen,” Atkinson said. “They have minimums of what they will do, but we will do one, two or 22. ”.
