Hunger Coalition selling wood truck - BlueRidgeNow.com

But according to Pat Fisher, board chair for the Hunger Coalition, the requests for wood have decreased over the years because many people no longer use wood to heat their homes. The organization plans to close its wood lot and sell its customized 1997 Ford F250 truck — a workhorse they’ve used to deliver countless loads of wood over the years. The money they receive in exchange for the truck will go to 11 agencies the Hunger Coalition supports to help them continue their assistance programs. The truck was purchased new from Bryan Easler Ford, thanks to grants the Hunger Coalition applied for and received. They outfitted the truck with a custom dump bed — the construction of which totaled over $3,000 — and in the coldest of winters, the truck hauled between 50 and 60 loads of wood to homes and people in need. Because of the low mileage and the custom dump bed, the organization is trying to get as much money as possible and will be accepting sealed bids for the truck. Bids can be sent to the Henderson County Hunger Coalition at P. O. Box 6151, Hendersonville, N. C. , 28793. To learn more about the Hunger Coalition and the truck, contact Fisher at 828-693-4940.
