Prophetstown man killed in wrong-way crash on IL Rt. 78 - WQAD.com

It was shortly before 2 p. m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015 when a 38-year-old Prophetstown man in a Pontiac Grand Am crossed into oncoming traffic and side-swiped one vehicle before striking another, according to a statement from the Whiteside County... According to the statement, the Grand Am driver was heading southbound on IL Rt. 78 when he crossed the center line and side-swiped a 2014 Ford Fusion driven by a 46-year-old woman heading northbound. The Grand Am, continuing southbound, then hit a 1992 Ford F-150 driven by 77-year-old Harold W. Cook. Other passengers inside the Grand Am, a 19- year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, as well as Cook’s passenger in the F-150, an 80-year-old man, were all taken to a nearby hospital. Whiteside County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted at the scene by officers, firefighters and EMTs from the Lyndon and Prophetstown Police Departments as well as the Illinois State Police.
