Ford 4.6, 5.4 3-Valve Cam Phaser Lockout Kit
This pair of cam phaser lockout blocks can be used to lock the factory cam phasers into the fully advanced position permanently. One kit includes two aluminum blocks, which is enough to do one Ford 4.6L or 5.4L 3V engine.
There are cheaper lockout blocks out there, but I have found the quality of these to be very good and they seem to fit nice and snug in the stock phasers. It's important that these blocks fit snug, and don't allow any movement of the phaser internally.
Note: This auction is for the two aluminum blocks only. The cam gear and bolts pictured are not included, and are only shown for reference. A Programmer or custom tune is also not included, but they are available separately in my Ebay store.

What are these for?
Factory Ford 3-Valve cam phasers are known for having issues, and aftermarket phasers are even worse. The main issue is that the phasers fail because they have a pin and spring inside that wear or break. They are designed to lock the cam into the fully advanced position at idle. This is to keep the cam timing from bouncing around at idle, when oil pressure is it's lowest. Over time, the pin or spring fails, and cam timing starts bouncing around. This causes a ticking or knocking noise to come from the phaser. The computer also throws trouble codes related to unwanted cam timing movement.
This problem is normally solved by installing a new pair of Ford cam phasers, but these phasers are not cheap, and neither is the labor to install them. Brand new cam phasers still have issues, and before very long you can find yourself right back in the repair shop installing more new phasers. The new phasers don't fix the problem, they just extend the failure time some. Other common issues like low oil pressure and clogged oil passages due to other engine problems just make the phaser issue happen even faster with high mileage vehicles.
