WAVERLY POLICE, AREA SHERIFFS' LOGS - Community Newspaper Group

July 24 : At 4:36 p. m. , police responded to a two-vehicle accident involving a parked vehicle in the Kwik Star West parking lot. The driver of a 2005 Ford F-250, Rex Andre Boyd, of Belmond, was parked at the east pump filling up. The truck had a camper trailer hooked up to it, so the truck itself was north of the pumps, toward the store. It also had a bike rack attached to the front with two bicycles mounted on it. A witness was at the adjacent pump, while two more were sitting at a table at the east side of the building. A 1992 Dodge Dakota, driven by Joseph Theodore Heidemann, 63, of Waverly, was parked in the handicap stall just to the truck’s north and west. Another vehicle not identified in the report was parked adjacent to the Dakota. Heidemann, as he backed out of his space, yelled out of the window if the bikes would be moved so he could clear the space, and if Boyd didn’t, he would. Before Boyd could respond, Heidemann backed up his Dakota and then forward, catching one of the bikes on the back of the Dakota. The witnesses told police that Heidemann moved forward, hitting the vehicle in the adjacent stall, causing minor damage to the front bumper. Heidemann told police that he felt he was boxed in. The responding officer advised he could’ve waited, and he is required by law to remain at the scene of an accident. Source: www.communitynewspapergroup.com
