Family marks birthday of motorcyclist killed in fiery Hollywood hit-run - Sun Sentinel

Jason David Swanson would have turned 31 Wednesday. But four months ago, he died in a fiery hit-and-run crash when an SUV collided with his Honda motorcycle in Hollywood. The woman thought to have been driving the older-model, dark-colored Ford Explorer or Ford Explorer Sport Trac that hit Swanson is still being sought by Hollywood police. She had a girl with her who wore glasses and was perhaps as old as 12. Witnesses reported that the two got out of their vehicle after the crash, looked at the injured man lying in the road near his burning motorcycle, then drove south on South... After the crash the motorcycle's gas cap came off, causing fuel to spill and eventually ignite, according to a police report. Swanson's loved ones gathered with flowers, balloons and cupcakes Wednesday night at the site of the March 29 crash to honor their son, brother and friend. "It's just to remember his birthday, because we have nothing else but memories," said Gregory Swanson, Jason Swanson's father. At about 8:15 p. m. that Sunday, the SUV left the alley on the north side of Zinkil Park and turned south on South 56th Avenue. It violated Swanson's right of way by failing to yield, a Hollywood police report says. Left behind was a clue: part of a running board from a Ford Explorer or Ford Explorer Sport Trac.
