Behind the scenes of 'On The Road' special - WTSP 10 News

Over the past few months I've been driving all over the Tampa Bay area trying to find interesting people doing unique things and get their stories on 10News at 5:55 p. m. every night. The best of the best made it into my On The Road 30-minute special. I drove over 300 miles in two weeks just shooting introductions and updates to these stories from earlier this year. A photographer who used to work here at our station, Adam Vance, was chatting one day with a parent during his son's baseball game. The subject of a school in Tampa's "fifth quarter" came up and Adam's ears perked up. He's a sports fan, like me, and knew that there is no such thing as a fifth quarter. The Christ The King Lions play four quarters of basketball then add a fifth quarter so that Davis Harkey gets to play. The middle-schooler was born 28 weeks premature and has a lengthy list of physical things that plague him. I asked to take pictures with him and he was so thrilled to be on TV. His mom cried while I asked her interview questions. I wasn't trying to get her to cry this day, either, but to see her son blend in with the rest of the kids was enough to move her to tears. Bien means 'good' in Spanish but "bien" simply isn't a sufficient description for Bien Yambao. Source: www.wtsp.com
