Traffic accident kills one in northern Gilchrist. A person was killed in a traffic accident in northern Gilchrist County Tuesday afternoon on State Road 47 and County Road 340 near High Springs, according to the Florida Highway Patrol’s website. The accident was reported at 3:53 p. m. and road blockages were reported. A Lake City motorcyclist was hospitalized with serious injuries Monday night after he drove into the path of a car as he was making a U-turn, reported the Florida Highway Patrol. Ulis Phillip Taylor, 44, was flown by helicopter to UF Health Shands Hospital following the accident that occurred at 6:29 p. m. at State Road 100 and Newell Drive in Columbia County, FHP reported in a press release. Taylor was riding a 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on SR 100. He pulled onto the shoulder and made a U-turn into the path of Keith Lawrence Free, 66, of Laurel Hill. Free, driving a 1998 Dodge Ram pickup truck, swerved to the left and braked to try to avoid a collision but ended up hitting Taylor.
