They said they plan to deliver the $2. 5 million to the college ahead of the July 2 deadline. Resignations of the school’s president and current board members become effective that day, pending the delivery of the money, according to a college spokesman. The outgoing board already has approved a list of 18 new board members as nominated by Saving Sweet Briar and the plaintiffs in three recently ended legal challenges against the school. The News & Advance recently interviewed six of those newcomers, part of the future leadership of the college. Charles Krulak led a platoon in Vietnam and headed the Marines Corps under President Bill Clinton. Now, by joining the board of Sweet Briar College, he’ll be taking a seat at the table in a new war room. As Marine commandant from 1995 to 1999, Krulak sat on the Joint Chiefs of Staff in an era marked by both war in Bosnia and military downsizing. “You are responsible for everything that your service does or fails to do. ”. Nearly a decade after his retirement from the service in 1999, Krulak sought a position as a college president. He accepted the job as president at Birmingham-Southern College in 2011, turning down other offers. “The college was having difficulty,” he said. Source: www.roanoke.com
