The trooper tried to stop the driver for a traffic violation, but he refused to stop, Montalvo said. La Joya police officers assisted with the short pursuit that ended when the truck went into Lake Walker, about a mile south of the highway, Montalvo said. Three men bailed out of the truck, including one who went into the water but never came out, Montalvo said. Troopers caught the driver and the other passenger shortly after they bailed out of the truck.
