RICHFIELD TWP, MI -- A semi-trailer truck burst into flames Wednesday, May 6, at the Fishing Tackle Grab Bag at the intersection of M-15 and Coldwater Road after it was struck by a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old Troy man. Richfield Township Police Chief Tony Craig said the incident began around 3 p. m. when 911 sent out a call for police to be on the lookout for a possibly intoxicated driver headed eastbound on Coldwater Road, from Belsay Road. Craig said the driver behind the wheel of a 2006 Buick Rendezvous had gone off Coldwater Road and his vehicle struck the fuel tank of the truck just behind the driver's-side door, causing the fire. "The driver of the semi was parked and in the process of unloading when the vehicle was struck," said Craig, adding the driver of the vehicle that caused the crash was the same person suspected of driving while intoxicated. Ryan Sharnas, an employee at the Fishing Tackle Grab Bag, said he was inside when "I heard my co-worker yelling. When he stepped outside Sharnas didn't expect what he saw, thinking it was just one vehicle crashing into another vehicle. Sharnas said his co-worker and the semi driver were preparing to unload an order when they heard "what sounded like a bomb" and saw the car in flames. After seeing the driver inside the vehicle, Sharnas said the semi driver went up to the car and dragged the driver out. Source: www.mlive.com
