Woman airlifted after head-on collision on 'The Stretch' - Eastern Arizona Courier

Dan Long, a silver, 1998 Dodge pickup truck driven by Brian Steele, 42, of Tucson was northbound at about 5:12 p. m. roughly six miles north of the intersection with U. S. Highway 70 in an area known as “The Stretch” when the vehicle in front of... The two vehicles collided with such force that both drivers were trapped and had to be extricated by the Safford Fire Department. After she was extricated, Crystal Moreno was initially treated at the scene by paramedics from Southwest Ambulance before being airlifted to Banner — University Medical Center Tucson Campus. According to Long, Crystal suffered multiple injuries to her lower legs that were somewhat pinned under the dash as well as blunt force injuries to her face and chest. Steven Moreno suffered lacerations to his legs and left hand and fingers and reported pain in his left shoulder and chest. Crystal's son suffered minor cuts to his left shoulder and chin and reported chest pain. The highway was then fully closed from 6:05 p. m. until about 6:40 p. m. when the helicopter, Safford Fire and Southwest Ambulance were all off the scene. The highway then partially reopened as Nuttall's Towing removed the damaged vehicles and fully reopened at 7:08 p. m.
