During a brief news conference around 2:30 p. m. at the motel, Perry said the victim’s race was difficult to determine. He could be a white man, a light-skinned African-American, Hispanic, Indian or Asian, the sheriff said. The man was one of two contractors staying in the room, Perry said. , Perry said. "(GTL Americas is) a subcontractor that works on cell phone towers," the sheriff said. Tobar has not yet been located, Perry said. Perry said officers want to speak with Tobar and verify his safety. "We don’t know what’s taken place here … whether he’s safe or whether he may hold some answers to what happened," the sheriff said. The victim’s body was discovered when GTL Americas could not reach the two contractors by phone and sent a representative to the room to see if contact could be made with the men, Perry said. Suryakant Patel, manager of Knights Inn, said he and another person went to the room Tuesday morning after receiving a call from the company, and that they were the ones who discovered the body. Patel said he had no idea what happened in the room or when it happened. In his 36 years at Knights Inn, he said, nothing like this has happened there. "It is bad for his family," Patel said.
