GM restores sinkhole-damaged 1-millionth Corvette - TV Newsroom

“We felt it was important to restore this extremely significant vehicle in Corvette’s long, storied history”, explained GM executive Mark Reuss. After the one millionth Corvette was fished out of the sinkhole, it was moved to GM’s Design Center in Warren, Michigan, where roughly 30 craftspeople and technicians worked on the restoration. Before and after photos of the restoration work completed on the damaged one-millionth Corvette. But, GM has scanned those two panels, and transferred the original autographs to the new parts, which were taken from a time-period correct C4 Corvette to ensure authenticity. GM says it had to replace the one-millionth Corvette’s hood, front fascia, and lower panels between the front wheels and doors with parts from a separate white 1992 Corvette. When the 1992 Chevrolet Corvette was first assessed by the restoration team, they found the auto was covered in signatures from the workers who originally built the vehicle. The National Corvette Museum is located across the road from GM’s Bowling Green Corvette Assembly Plant off of Interstate 65. The other sinkhole-damaged Corvettes include a 1984 PPG Pace vehicle. and 2009 1. 5-millionth Corvette. Source: tvnewsroom.org
